CHRISTOPHER WATTS FUNERAL & CREMATION.
Today we attended the funeral of our dear friend Chris, who sadly passed away on Tuesday 1st. August. The service took place at Mattishall Church at 2.30 pm and was attended by over 200 people which included Family, friends, ex- work colleagues, football players, fans and people from the village.
It was a very moving service with music played by R.E.M.(Everyboby Hurts) as the coffin and the mourners entered the Church. Prayers and readings followed by the vicar and a poem written and spoken by Terry Allcock, who once played for Norwich City F.C.- he was Chris’s Manager at Norwich City Reserves when Chris first started playing for Norwich. As Terry said ‘Chris was one of my boys’. The Hymn’ Abide with Me’ was sung by the congregation. This was choosen as it is has always been sung at the F.A. Cup Final since 1927. After further prayers including the Lord’s Prayer the vicar said some moving words on Chris,s love for Football, his work, his passion for life, and his always giving more than 100%, but most of all his biggest love always being his Wife and Family. The service ended with the singing of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, Chris had always been a follower of Liverpool F.C. (as well as Ipswich Town F.C.)
The Funeral Courtege then moved to St. Faith’s Crematorium for the final goodbye’s from Family and close Frinds before his body was committed for cremation.
After all our goodbye’s, a wake was held at Chris and Pat’s home in Mattishall where everyone was talking of their fond memories of Chris, sharing time spent with him and the happy times they had all known.
CHRIS WAS A GREAT MAN WITH TREMENDOUS COURAGE. WE SHALL ALL MISS HIM DEARLY!
