England Crash -Out in Penalty Shoot-Out!
England crashed-out of the World Cup to Portugal 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after extra time saw them drawing without scoring. England lost David Beckham in the 62nd minute with an ankle injury, and Wayne Rooney sent off 20 minutes from the end of normal time. England seemed to play better with 10 men, Lennon replaced Beckham, and Crouch replaced Joe Cole when Rooney was sent off. 2 minutes from the end of extra time Carrigher replaced Lennon with the intent of taking a penalty.
It seems England are doomed to go out in major competitions if it comes to penalities. It was a dismal display by England, Lampard, Carrigher, who had to retake his as he took it before the ref ’s whistle, and Lampard all missing. The winning goal was scored by Ronaldo of Man-U. England’s exit sees the end of Sven,s reign in charge with Steve Mclaren now to take over.
