England Qualify for the last Sixteen!
England played their last game against Sweden to gain qualification to the last sixteen with a 2-2 draw. Far from qualifying in style they struggled, mainly in defence, set pieces, corners and freekicks being a nightmare. They took the lead with a spectacular goal from Joe Cole in the first half. The second half they let Sweden back in the game before taking the lead again with a header from Steven Gerrad, which should have been the winner, before letting Sweden even the score in the dying minutes of the game. Poor defending costing them the game, and also denying themselves the chance of beating Sweden for the first time since 1968. The game saw the end of Michael Owen’s World Cup, he was injured in the opening minute, damaging his knee ligaments, and is already back in England.
The next game sees England play Ecuador on Sunday, a win putting them in the last eight. Lets hope that they can give the fans something to shout about by winning in style. They shoud really win comfortably, I would have thought by at least 2 goals!
COME ON ENGLAND!
